Losing pounds to raise £'s for the Air Ambulance

28th October 2009

Two checkout workers at Sainsbury’s in Princess Square are doing a sponsored slim to raise money for the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance and hope to lose 10 stone between them.

George Jones and Anne Rogers, both checkout assistants at the supermarket, hope to lose around five stone each over the next year.

Anne, who has worked at the shop for 10 years, lives in Wilwood Road, Priestwood, and weighs 18 stone, said: “I’ve already started – I’m going to eat much more healthily and I’m going to use my Wii Fit [games console] to help.

“It will make it harder to lose weight while I have to see all the nice food going past me on the checkout but it will make it easier having some company.”

That company will be 18-year-old George Jones of Cumnor Way in Harmans Water.

The 19-stone checkout assistant is hoping to lose between three and five stone over the course of the year.

He said: “I just thought that I’m overweight and I should change that and raising money for charity at the same time makes sense.

“I’ve started eating properly and I’ve joined a gym – it’s Fitness Warehouse which is behind McDonald’s, near a kebab van and next to John Chick [fast food restaurant]!

“So far it seems easy and I’m not really missing anything, although I’m sure it won’t stay that way!”
