Lee’s story

On the 17th July 2012, just over a year ago, I was involved in a very serious motorcycle crash and had to be airlifted by the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance. I was on my way home from work, travelling on my motorcycle, when suddenly I was involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming a car. Despite the heavy collision, I actually remember the crash and as I laid on the floor I knew instantly my leg was badly broken. Amazingly, given the predicament I was in, I couldn’t actually feel any real pain. The first ambulance responder on scene was a paramedic ...

Teresa helping to raise funds for Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance

My name is Teresa Rendal and I am from Chesham in Buckinghamshire.  On 10th October 2012, I was airlifted to hospital by the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance following a serious road traffic accident. It was a very normal day and I was driving along my usual route through Chesham on my way to work.  I do not have any recollection of what happened next, only that as I approached a crossroads, I was hit by a Van on the driver’s door. My first awareness of the accident was when I began to regain consciousness and heard somebody looking over me and telling ...

I dragged myself away already knowing that something was broken. My two friends soon realised that I was badly hurt and called for an ambulance. “The emergency services were unable to pinpoint our location and it was about an hour before any emergency services got to me. ...

Mick’s Story

It was a nice sunny morning on the 17th October 2012 when I had arrived to do a little work off my ladders to the first storey of my friend’s house. I had made my safety checks but as I slowly leaned forward the ladder went out from underneath me. I was conscious and checked fingers and toes which were all fine but I had dislocated my shoulder which was really painful and I had to hold in the air with my other hand. As there were no land ambulances available, the air ambulance was called in; landing in the front garden and arrived in what seemed only minutes. ...

A Bad Break for Gary

On Saturday the 23rd of March 2012, I was playing for Holmer Green Football Club against Berkhampstead Football Club. During a Berkhampstead attack I moved across to challenge an opposing player but unfortunately, with my momentum carrying me forward, landed on the ground with my leg trapped between his. I felt and heard my lower leg give way. I looked down and saw my leg severely deformed inside my football sock with what looked like the bone poking through on the inside of my leg and my foot hanging off to the outside. I managed to dive on the floor and rotate my ...

Kieron Glendening-Day

I was taking my grandson, Kieron, who lives with me to our local child minder. As I joined the A421, only minutes after leaving home, Kieron cried out in what I thought was a cry of pain. To find out what was wrong with him, I indicated to pull over and the car was hit in the rear by an articulated lorry. When I came to, I could only hear a murmur from Kieron and before I could do anything the air ambulance was on the ground. I was told by the paramedics that Kieron was in a very serious condition and they needed to get him to hospital as soon as possible. He was ...

Craig on his feet again

On the 8th February 2012, I had finished work for the day and was on my way to my part-time volunteering work. I approached the junction at the crossing of the H6 in Milton Keynes and as I made to cross I was hit by a car. It was not until months later, after I had been released from hospital, that I had a flashback of the accident. After meeting and talking to a woman who ran up the road at the time of the accident to try and help me, I recalled the level of pain I was in. My entire lower right leg had been crushed between the bike and car almost to the point where ...
