Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance is situated at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire. This location acts as central point to the counties we serve, enabling the helicopter to reach any destination within Berkshire, Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire in less than 15 minutes.
Since establishment in 1999, Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance has developed into one of the leading air ambulance units in the country. In 2014, we became the first air ambulance to carry an I-Stat machine (portable blood analyser) which helps our crew to focus treatment and make clinical decisions for patients on scene. With the helicopter also equipped with an Ultrasound Machine and on-board blood transfusion equipment, our service has ‘raised the bar’ in terms of clinical excellence.
Having this equipment on-board the air ambulance is groundbreaking and has created our mantras of ‘bringing the hospital to the patient’. What’s more, our clinical teams aboard the aircraft are now doctor-led, with Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance crewed by a Doctor and Paramedic during our operational hours; further increasing the level of advanced care we can deliver to our patients. As a result, the demand for our air ambulance service has increased drastically with Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance averaging 3-4 missions a day.
